Mission & Philosophy
Our Mission
Moringa Community is committed to helping the
people of Ghana, West Africa improve their quality of life by
developing sustainable locally appropriate technologies, and to
training local citizens in their use in order to provide
occupational opportunity, reduce physical rigors, and help meet
basic life needs. Initially, we are focusing on a
community center in the Central region of Ghana, near Cape
Coast, which will provide training in
woodworking and
food
preservation. Over time, we aim to expand by incorporating other
life and occupational skills, and by broadening our geographical
impact to other regions in Ghana and West Africa.
Our Philosophy
Moringa Community is a practical and realistic
goal-oriented grass roots effort to improve the lives of
impoverished people in West Africa. Our goal is not to give charity
but to educate and empower Ghanaians according to the philosophy of
"Give a man a fish and feed him for only one day. Teach a man to
fish and feed him for a life time." We can throw endless dollars of
aid to Africa in feeding it's people but sending containers of food,
although an oft times needed short term fix, in the long view such
aid does nothing to solve the problem, it only treats the symptoms.
Our goal is to help the African people help themselves and to
determine their own future, not be victims of the past.
